The cutest DIY easter eggs

Easter may be a couple of weeks away, but I always find myself planning ahead when it comes to family functions. I like to make the most of every holiday, and that usually means crafting up a storm and spending a little extra time in the kitchen to prepare. Dyeing Easter eggs is a longstanding tradition in my home, and this year I thought I’d put an unexpected twist on the expected decorations. Instead of dunking eggs into dye and vinegar, this year I decided to get craftier and broke out felt, hot glue, and a little bit of acrylic paint. I’m pretty satisfied with the outcome… Say hello to the cutest Easter friends I ever did see. Whether you’re planning for an Easter brunch or looking for a craft to keep little fingers busy, these DIY eggs are so simple and so cute. Keep scrolling for the complete tutorial…

Bunny Easter Egg

Little bunny easter egg

Here’s what you will need:

  • hot glue gun
  • light blue, tan and off-white felt
  • pink acrylic paint
  • small paintbrush
  • thin black Sharpie
  • one small silk flower

Instructions:

1. I began by assembling the bunny’s base, or cute little outfit. Cut out a strip of blue felt a few inches long and about an inch and a half wide.

2. Cut out the collar and button using the off-white felt and hot glue them to the blue felt. Connect the felt together using hot glue so that the little outfit can prop the egg up. Hot glue a small silk flower to his lapel.

3. Cut out two ears from the tan felt and smaller off-white inserts. Hot glue the pieces together and attach to the top of the egg.

4. Using the thin black Sharpie, draw on a cute little face.

5. Lastly, take your small paintbrush and pink acrylic paint to give the bunny some rosy cheeks.

6. Set the bunny egg inside the felt outfit for your finished product. How cute is he?!

Deer Easter Egg

DIY animal easter eggs

Here’s what you will need:

  • hot glue gun
  • brown felt
  • thin black Sharpie
  • pink and white acrylic paint
  • small paintbrush
  • twigs (I found mine in the backyard!)
  • plastic flowers for tiny flower crown

Instructions:

1. For the deer Easter egg, start by cutting the brown felt into a strip that is a few inches long and about an inch and a half wide. Glue ends together to make a stand.

2. Cut out two small ears from the brown felt and glue them to the top of the egg.

3. Using two twigs, create antlers by gluing them behind the felt ears.

4. For the deer’s flower crown I bought fake, plastic flowers at the craft store and glued strips of them together. Glue them securely to the egg.

5. Using the thin black Sharpie, give the deer a sweet face.

6. Give your deer spots and rosy cheeks using the acrylic paint.

7. Set the deer into the felt stand, and voila! You now have a fancy fawn.
